The Kentucky Humane Society’s Pet Resource Services provides free advice for whatever animal issues you are experiencing. DOMESTIC ABUSE SAFE HAVEN PROGRAM
The Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) and The Center for Women & Families established the Safe Haven Program to help care for the pets of domestic violence survivors by offering a “safe haven” for their pets. While survivors seek help and shelter from abusive living situations, KHS provides a safe, anonymous home for their beloved dogs and cats. This program not only provides a safe place for the pets, but also helps puts the family at ease, knowing their furry friends will receive care and love until they can be reunited. Emotional Support Animal Assistance: Did you know that Federal law recognizes the importance of Emotional Support Animals? Owners of emotional support animals are given certain protections under federal law which enable them to live with their ESAs (even in no-pet buildings). MDEF helps people experiencing homelessness get their pets certified.

IF YOUR PET IS LOST
Contact Louisville Metro Animal Services at LMAS Lost & Found Page to report your pet is lost: If your pet is microchipped, contact the microchip company to report that your pet is missing, lost or stolen. You can also view photos of strays that have been received. Be sure to keep a current photo and records to proof ownership. You may also post fliers and photos to Lost and Found groups on Facebook.

B. If you’re unable to safely capture the pet or reach the owner, contact Louisville Metro Animal Services: (502) 473-7387 for assistance.
C. If you are able to safely capture and contain the animal. Then, first thing to check is the collar for tags with contact information. If there’s no Pet ID, try to check for a microchip (most vet offices will scan for free). Other actions: Walk or drive around the neighborhood to see if anyone is searching nearby, Check out LMAS Lost & Found Page to report an animal lost or found, Make ‘Found Pet’ Signs and post around the neighborhood, check social media for lost pet posts.
D. Still no owner? Consider ‘Stray Fostering’ to keep the pet out of the shelter. You must register in person at LMAS located at 3528 Newburg Road to begin a mandatory stray hold. Note: If you cannot safely transport the pet to LMAS please make a service request pickup at 502-473-7387 (there is no cost for this service).
HOW TO CHANGE YOUR PET’S MICROCHIP
If you have moved or changed phone numbers or email address, then it’s important to change your pet’s microchip information. If you obtained your pet from another person, the microchip change must be initiated by the previous owner. If you have the microchip number, then you may do a universal search to find the correct company. Here are some contact numbers for common microchip companies:

Alley Cat Neighborhoods Program: The program developed in partnership with Louisville’s Metro Animal Services (MAS) and funded by a grant from PetSmart Charities. Do you feed stray, unowned cats? Shamrock Foundation: For pets that need spay/neuter and wellness services, you can request a voucher from the Shamrock Foundation to receive a spay/neuter voucher. To request a voucher call Shamrock at (502) 585-3220. Be sure to leave a DETAILED message including your name, number and that you need help with spay/neuter for your pet.
KHS Care-a-Van: The CARE-a-van is now doing Spay/Neuter events in multiple locations. Dogs $80-$95 (must be under 8 years and less than 50 pounds). Cats $60-$70. For more information and to schedule: KHS CARE-a-Van page.
KHS SNIP CLINIC Low-Cost Spay/Neuter. The S.N.I.P. Clinic offers low-cost spay/neuter surgeries. Surgery Prices: Cat – Female $70, Cat – Male $60, Dog – Female $95, Dog – Male $80. The S.N.I.P. KHS Pit Bull Terrier Discount: Because of the overpopulation of this breed in our area, the S.N.I.P. Clinic offers discounted spay/neuter surgeries for pit bull terriers of just $30.
